| The museum is situated in the Sea Garden , near the center of the town and the railway station. From there, the museum is within walking distance. From the bus station take bus to the railway station. |

Varna is the biggest port as well as the tourist and cultural center along the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, which was founded at the end of 6th c. BC. In the Archaeological museum you can see one of the most ancient gold treasures in the world that were discovered in the Varna necropolis (4,500 BC). The Aquarium, Dolphinarium and Sea Garden give an additional aspect of sea to the town. The famous rock Aladja Monastery is located 14 km away from Varna. |

The indoor exhibition of the Naval museum occupies an area of 360 m². With the help of selected exhibits, pictures, and documents, the history of the Bulgarian navy is shown from its foundation in 1879 to present. The visitors could see original ship remains like ancient anchors, figure-heads, sailors' and officers' uniforms, scale models, flags, and insignia of honour.
In the open-air exhibition, you can see the the legendary ship "Druski," torpedo-boat, sailing-boat, and collections of mines, cannons, and anchors.

The collection of marine antiquities began in 1883 on the initiative of Russian officers, serving in the Bulgarian Navy. The public organization "Bulgarian National Maritime Association" made the first exhibition of the Naval museum, which was opened on 20th of May 1923. Since 1955 the museum has become part of the Ministry of Defence as a branch of the National Museum of Military History. The building in which it is located, built in the end of 19th century, is an architectural monument.
The funds of the museum collect more than 100 thousands of objects, pictures, and documents of not only the naval history, but also of merchant navigation, shipbuilding, and ports. The museum also posseses works of art with sea themes. The museum has a rich specialized library. |
