The Historical museum in Gorna Oryahovitsa was established in 1962 to preserve the historical heritage of the region. Until nowadays a number of valuable exhibits, not only of regional but of national historical importance, have been kept in the collection of the museum. Let's do not forget, that the town is one of the centers of the April Uprising 1876, and later in 1925 it was crowned for the capital of the first Bulgarian Fair fro specimen, for which an authentic film reel has been kept.
The town of Gorna Oryahovitsa is situated in Central Bulgaria and is in close vicinity to the old capital of Veliko Tarnovo, which are the factors for the rich archeological heritage found on the territory of the Municipality. Except for the Ryahovets Fortress - the prototype of the town, regular archeological excavations of other 7 objects have been undertaken during the last 20 years. The excavations are the most impressive part of the exhibition of the museum. One of the oldest photographic studios preserved in its authentic style since XIX century is also part of the exhibition of the museum. |
